While it would appear that quite a few otherwise allergic people are unaffected by the LaPerm (we’ve had many buying from us) – it’s not fail safe. We usually encourage all potential buyers to come and meet them first. Playing around and cuddling with the cats for an hour or two – then go home to wait for a reaction. (often we also give them a “try out blanket” that is a blanket or piece of cloth that the cats have slept on – to bring home).
The breed is getting increasingly popular in my country; Sweden with 66 registred cats in 2012 and it has gained a lot of attention nationally. And info on breeders can be found on the LaPerms of Scandinavia webpage at: http://LaPerm.nu.
I read that LaPerm cats cause fewer allergies than other breeds — do you know if this is true? Where can I find one?
